Hues of Harmony

ART OF NATURE:

Art of Nature "Hues of Harmony" Art Show is now OPEN to the public through October 5th in the Adams Farmhouse at Columbus Botanical Garden! This nature-inspired art show gives us a chance to highlight local artists in a temporary indoor exhibition. Come view this artwork and support these incredibly talented local artists by visiting the Garden from 9am-4pm, Tuesday-Sunday.

Many people in our current fast-paced world perceive nature as static and unchanging. They might take for granted the dynamic and diverse environment we inhabit in the Chattahoochee Valley region.

We hope to spark conversations and inspire action regarding environmental conservation and stewardship, to facilitate innovative and engaging experiences, and to foster a sense of wonder and joy of the natural world.

Elaine Clayton

As an artist and author I am powerfully drawn to painting the utter beauty in nature and the human form. When I paint I want to recreate the feeling of awe I get when wandering through nature which always gives me the sense of wonderment and mystery, expectation and peace. I find my heart opens to nature in a dreamy way in Georgia. The deep greenery, floral majesty and the soothing sunlit leaves seem to whisper that all is well as long as I stay connected to that sense of the presence of the Divine in all living things, in all the created world. Essentially I want to capture the beauty, playful spirit inside and out, found when recognizing the love in our world as beheld in gardens, forests, cultivated areas and wild landscapes. As an artist, I want the viewer to be excited to celebrate and cultivate the beauty in nature, realizing that we are not separate from it and also have within us the light of abundant life.

Monica L. Beck

I was raised in Columbus, Georgia with my siblings: My father was military; mother a homemaker: I started to take drawing lessons in my early 40’s and learned watercolor and pastel; changed medium to acrylics; then faux painting lead me to Venetian and stucco plaster painting and eventually I started painting with oils.

Now I play with Abstract collage and playing a year with pottery.

Gardening had been a long and pleasurable passion: being one in nature and creation but when painting all I want to do is just try to express and explore and interpret what I am seeing .

"The Camellia Garden Fountain"

11”x14” Acrylic on Canvas

Prints - $55 | Cards - $5

The beautiful Camellia Garden at The Columbus Botanical Gardens is home to diverse blooms in each season–as the daffodils and camellias fade, the tulips and azalea follow. And in turn, to be followed by fall foliage. The garden offers a serene setting that attracts families, friends and pollinators to make memories and enjoy nature

Jade Tamaski

I am an artist based in Columbus, GA specializing in floral and landscape paintings. I have a BFA from Columbus State University and participate in local art festivals and events throughout the year. Most of my work is acrylic, but I also dabble with watercolor. I am a wife and mother and enjoy spending time outside in gardens and anywhere near the water. I sell directly from my website and take commission requests.

These paintings reflect the beauty found in nature, specifically florals. To consider their blooms a gift and interpret their color, vibrance and aroma into an emotional reaction. I often find myself transformed by florals and how a simple petal can define a memory, feeling, or period of my life. Some feelings I have yet to identify on my own, although these wondrous beautiful florals can ignite an emotion with one touch or smell.

Courtney Irene Davis

“Leg Piece, Arm Piece, and Hand piece"

2024 - all pieces are made of plaster with a combination of real nature element's such as sticks, moss, rocks, leaves, etc.

Courtney just recently graduated at Columbus State University with her Bachelor’s in art. She grew up in Columbus/Phenix City area her whole life. She has a love for art, her main medium of focus is painting; although she prefers oil paint.

While at Columbus State, Courtney was able to participate in an art show in the Schley gallery. Her artwork was presented there and it was open to the public. The theme of the show was fantasy and she provided four sculptures. While at Columbus State, she also had drawings shown in the Schley gallery for the spring semester.

The artwork that I have provided are all sculptures I have created around nature. They all represent grounding yourself back to nature and finding the beauty within yourself. I want the viewer to see my artwork and feel a breath of fresh air and self love. They are sculptures of the body and each piece is crafted using materials from nature itself. Moss, twigs, rocks, sticks, leaves, etc. Essentially, the nature and the forms of the human body connected together, give you this perspective of grounding yourself within nature and finding the true beauty in that.

Julie Umberger

Inspired by the glorious spring that pulls me out of seasonal depression, flowers are the personal representation of all things hopeful.

Imperfections speak to me. I love real, raw, and vulnerability. Keeping my art in tune to be true to my abilities and non-fussy is a reflection of how I like most things in my life. Cut paper analog collages are my newest form of creation.

I use discarded magazines and books to create new scenarios from combining old images with bold new ones for a story to come to life. Combining flowers with figures feels as natural as nature itself. We are all from the same substance and our growths are intertwined.

As an artist, I find myself heavily influenced by my environment and surroundings. I rarely have time to go outside and just observe nature, so most of my work is subjective. Traveling to Florence was an extreme change to my environment and as we went to places like the Boboli Gardens, I was amazed. I was forced into a very natural environment and it allowed me to focus on the importance and conservation of nature.

Surrounded by this beautiful landscape, I was very inspired by different depictions of light in different areas of the Gardens. As we were walking up a hill I noticed this empty spot in the trees that framed a yellow house in the distance. I appreciated the contrast of the dark foreground to the vibrant background. I took the photo without knowing how it would come out and moved along to see more of the gardens.

My creative practice focuses on my commitment to using visual communication as a tool for positive change. Photography has the power to inform, inspire, and empower, and my works reflect this passion. In my works, I strive to tackle complex global issues like consumerism and climate change.

Through my recent works, I strive to raise awareness about pressing social and environmental challenges and encourage others to consider their own roles in addressing these issues. As a Columbus Local, I wanted to highlight how beautiful the nature around us is; with highlighting this I also wanted us to think about how we live and how our actions our slowly making it harder for nature to thrive due to the immense amounts of pollution we make.

As I continue to develop my practice, I am excited to explore new ways to use my work as a force for good

Nature comes in all different forms. Even simple things we see daily are a unique part of our environment. I wanted to capture the diversity of nature in Georgia by creating a series of vases depicting different flora and fauna from the region.

I chose ceramics as my medium to create something using material taken from the earth to inspire my pieces. The use of glaze also lends itself to the diversity of nature with its unpredictability. Depending on outside stimuli, the glaze can react differently, just like nature. It reacts in unpredictable ways and creates unique finishes for each of my pieces.

These vases are a look into how I view nature’s beauty. I want my artwork to remind us that to enjoy nature, it is our job to step up and protect it. We depend on nature and in thanks, we need to help it continue to grow and thrive.

Thomisha Blackshear

Hello my name is Misha, I am a small artist. I have studied at Academy of Art University however, didn't get to finish. I am a draw-how-I-feel/see artist. most of my art work is charcoal, painting or photography. I may not be able to enjoy nature like most however, I let the drawings and photos express what I am feeling in that moment.

I'm not so confident in my own art work that's why I started a small business for artist that may be shy and not see the beauty in their work. I’ve been drawing since middle school, during school I was in NHAS (national honors art society) at Hardaway High School! I haven’t been confident enough to submit any of my work into shows that were held during school however, my art teacher saw a spark in me. Which is why I created Celestial Star Gallery to inspire others to just put your art out there.

I hope that everyone gets to see the wonder and humbleness in my work. Thank You

Yuriy Totskiy

While architecture came to be an important part of Yuriy’s life, but his strong foundation in fine art has always been his passion.  His formal education in fine art started at a young age, coming in the form of the European tradition of four years of intense training. That training was entirely focused on fine art; it included art history, methods, style and techniques.  He applied that training as he continued his education in the School of Architecture, earning his degree in a discipline that allowed him to continue using his natural and now well-developed talent.
